Hello Pat,
I am a 54 year old grandmom in Christ,
and I thought,
if you were my son,
I would want to share this with you…so for Love sake...
here goes.
Pastor Jon Courson’s online study,
my notes follow;
Four reasons we MUST flee fornication from; 1 Corinthians 6: 15-18… You should start at verse 12-20 that is the chapter break for understanding the context.
1. Fornication jeopardizes my eternal state! Verse nine tells us the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. Fornicators are included along with this list, (Paul inspired by the Holy Spirit says)we will not inherit the kingdom of God. Again in Galatians 5 the works of the flesh, adultery, fornication, uncleanness = interest in sexual displays. They which do such things will not inherit the Kingdom of heaven, along with drunkards, and abusers of themselves. Does this mean anyone who has done this? The tense in the grammar is clear, it is those who continually practice these things, practice means we are getting better at it, and don’t care what God says, we are calculatingly and hardheartedly practicing our sin, then no kingdom. If a person practices this way, were they really of the body of Christ? Whether we lose our salvation or never had it, the result is the same. No one can guarantee to one who practices this that they will go to heaven. Do not play around with it, do not be deceived these will not inherit the kingdom.
This is a huge warning signal,
when we habitually,
continually practice sin,
this means that something is very,
very,
wrong.
When you are repentant,
your heart is grieved,
as yours is now,
my brother there is the Lord’s forgiveness,
when you turn from it,
repent and look up; 1 John 1:9 “If you confess your sins ( the implication is confessing that leads to repentance),
He is faithful and just to forgive our sins,
and to cleanse us from everything that is not right.”
2. Fornication agonizes your Holy King. See verse 15, God forbid you. Do we realize what happens in fornication, in these kinds of sins? You are bringing Jesus into that situation, even if only in your mind. Understand He is there, your grieving King, and you are forcing Him to be joined in this situation. You are joining Christ to that woman, that person. This is so evil a thought that Paul doesn’t go further.
A godly Pastor I know says we cannot join Jesus Spirit with a harlot, that the Holy Spirit suffers this grief. That paul says this to say if it were possible, meaning he doesn’t think Paul was meaning literally. But another Pastor, the one who taught this study says, yes, in a certain way we do.
3. Fornication compromises your being, verse 18. It is sin against your own body, or rather your--self. Any other sin we commit, is outside the self, this is a sin against you, it is within you. Proverbs 6:32 “[But] whoso commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: he [that] does it destroys his own soul.” saying, whoever commits adultery, which is any sex outside marriage, he that does it destroys his own soul. Those who fornicate do the same thing, here in 1 Corinthians. This act of sin is eroding and destroying the essence of your personality. How? The real you will live with the Lord eternally, the body is physical, but it is the soul that relates to people, and our spirit that relates to God. The media do not understand, sex is not only bodies joining. If it were only physical, God would list the dangers, disease, child birth outside marriage, but He does not. No the Bible teaches that souls are being joined. If we commit sexual sin we are destroying our soul.
How?
The world says,
I gave it up,
I got a piece of her,
yes we do,
give it up,
a piece of ourselves! We take a piece of another person,
so that a part of who I am is gone,
because every time we have sex we are giving up our essence,
and we cannot get it back.
Every time we engage in sex outside marriage,
we continue to become less and less of a person; we are losing our essence,
that which makes us who we are uniquely.
We talk to people who can’t even see it.
They say; “Hey baby”,
they are a shell of a person,
the only thing they can think about is giving up the last remnant of themselves.
This is a form of suicide,
because layer after layer,
part after part,
has been destroyed and eventually their soul will be empty.
Sex is not two bodies having recreation,
not at all.
God says no,
these immoral acts destroy the body often,
but this sin always diminishes our essence.
The same act that peels us away layer by layer diminishing us,
ages us.
We feel wiped out,
broken.
We cannot understand what is wrong with us,
or why we cannot make a relationship work.
The more of ourselves we give away,
the less of a person we will have to give in marriage.
The same act that erodes and destroys in fornication; unites,
bonds,
and builds in marriage.
In the bonds of matrimony we exchange,
share souls,
as we are becoming one.
Like two glasses of water of differing colors mixed together,
slowly become the same lovely color.
See later Paul says don’t hold back in marriage,
take on the new oneness,
having the same color,
and share your essence with one another.
Don’t pour your essence out into semi-relationships,
until you are empty.
Pour into marriage and share.
You are thinning out the who,
of you,
when engaging in fornication.
We become less of a woman,
less of a man.
Sexual sin is unwise,
it will destroy the soul,
cause us to play the fool,
and erode our essential being,
even though we may still go to heaven,
should we repent.
If the world got this, would they still snicker at sex and put it in the sitcoms? No, they would guard thier sacred love of self! But the world is so deceived they cannot SEE it. They ought to show a knife hacking off a portion of a person, until only a stump is left-- until nothing is left. Internally that is exactly what happens.
4.
Fornication minimizes your usability.
Are we so dense?
“Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit?
” The temple was the central place of ministry,
see the conquerer Titus came the enemy of Israel,
what did they do to them to take their effectiveness away?
They introduced them to fornication,
to adultery.
The enemy burns your temple with lust to consume you,
to burn you out,
to de-commission you for service.
Is it worth it to see Madonna’s new video?
For you my brother,
to continue in this relationship,
fornicating,
and separating yourself and your sister from the Lord while you sin against Him?
The burning of this temple is a fire that is never sated,
it never burns out.
Burning,
hurting,
is not what we want to be,
not what a Christian is meant to do,
only those who do not believe will burn! The central place of our Lords Ministry is us.
So the enemy seeks to get us involved in sexual sin,
to decommission us.
Then why can’t we just turn it off? Why did God leave the need? Revelation 14 says; 144, 000 which are 12, 000 from every tribe, will remain pure when the world goes thru great tribulation, these will go thru the entire world as a powerful witness of Him. Only these virgins, who are following the Lamb wherever He goes, will not be defiled (spoiled) with the rampant immorality that will certainly be far worse than it is now. See, for us today, the passion we feel, what about it? These 144, 000 say I am serious about Jesus, I want to go wherever His wind blows, and I don’t care what I must lose to do it, they are giving up their life, for His. We go to church and sing a song to Him, a tear rolls down our face, and then we confess I want to follow You. He says OK this is your opportunity to show Me to them. The world says, indulge self, do it if it feels good. We must say no, we are to suffer this tribulation, keeping our temples pure, and like these 144, 000 we will never regret that we fled fornication.
No one is ever happy about the times they fell into sexual sin. Everyone even non-believers later regret it, and believers would flee if they could go back. In our sex saturated culture, these practices of sexual fornication in almost every TV commercial and everywhere in the media has jeopardized our eternal life, grieved our Holy King Jesus, undone all the beautiful work of our Creator to make us special, and decommissioned us as His servants. Do not minimize your ability to be used, stay pure, and be used mightily for His name. How? RUN FLEE Turn it off, tear it up, and walk out… no run away! Even if only one song on an entire album can create lustful thoughts when all the others are great, throw it away, split if the movie has only one scene, get out of any relationship that leads to license for fornicated thoughts, whether you get your money back or not, no matter the cost! What is your soul worth? What is your eternal destiny worth? What is the heart of your King worth, who died to set you free from these things? What is His glory in you for eternity worth?
Nike means victory,
so run,
split,
don’t hang out,
and don’t even think about it for a second.
The addictive personality is just as capable of fleeing as any other.
We are not unique,
they had it in Corinth.
If we chose to obey,
the Lord will be there to see us through,
with the temptation He will provide a way of escape! A good running path! We can put blinders on,
or close our ears,
but then we will see Him beckoning us to the safe ground if we watch where His wind has blown.
If we hear His tender call,
this is the way,
walk you in it,
His Spirit will lead us straight to Him.
Don’t dialogue with it,
with her,
or him.
Run from it.
Be rude,
don’t worry about manners,
it will be good.
If you are flirting,
you are falling,
and the repercussions are terrible.
Are we already peeled away,
poured out?
The sad part is consequences are part of sin today,
no chance to turn back the clock.
Repentance brings a clean heart and relationship anew in Him.
But we lost something,
an arm,
a leg,
a part of us that matters to the Lord’s work.
Can then God take what satan meant for evil?
Yes,
He will make it good,
because that’s who He is.
We can be a living illustration.
I may be without a mate,
but God will take my loss when I violated His word,
and as I repent,
He will turn it for good,
make me wiser and compassionate knowing the pain,
the hurt,
the loss and the consequence,
he will use these scars of my rebellion.
Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery,
neither do I condemn you,
go on your way,
and sin no more.
How?
By faith in His marvelous work you are FREE! By Grace you are saved daily,
it is so powerful! Free to flee fornication,
and to let Him turn it for good and for His glory.
SOOOOoooooo....
long! Sorry,
I was urged to offer you what the Lord has given me.
So let us Your life on earth remain pure for Your sweet and glorious name oh God!
Ever in Him…bonnie
